25th Anniversary of Calf Fry

STILLWATER, OKLA.- Festival season is officially upon us and one of Stillwater’s most popular events, Calf Fry, is here once again. Calf Fry, which is put on each year by the Tumbleweed Dance Hall, is also known as the “testical festival” and features not only the signature dish but also a whole lot of live music. Now in its 25th year, many people have fond memories of growing up with the festival year after year. That doesn’t just go for the locals, people travel from all around to munch on calf fries and experience the music and atmosphere that only Stillwater can provide. Calf Fry began to celebrate the Red Dirt music movement which got its start in Stillwater, and every year features some of the hottest names in the scene. This year of course is no different.

Calf Fry is the perfect kick off to the Spring season- when the temperatures start to get warmer and the beer seems to get colder. Most everyone has a case of Spring fever at this time, and Calf Fry is a perfect way to release some of that steam and excitement. The outdoor event has plenty of room for dancing and shenanigans, and getting a little wild and free is just expected really.

The festival kicks off on Thursday, April 28, and goes through Saturday, April 30. It is an all ages event, and tickets are available online as well as at the doors. Credit cards can be taken to purchase tickets outside the gates, but once inside it is a cash only festival. There will be ATMs available for use. There will be many different food vendors and options including the popular treat that the festival is named after. If you have yet to try a calf fry, this is the year that you should remedy that.

The Will Call/Box Office opens at 4pm each day, the gates open at 5pm and the music kicks off at approximately 5:30pm.

On Thursday, April 28 the fantastic musical line-up includes Sam Riggs, Corey Smith, Aaron Watson and the Josh Abbott Band. There will be an after party inside the Tumbleweed that features Chance Anderson that evening as well. These guys will no doubt kick off the festival right with an awesome show.

Friday, April 29 will get a little rocking and rowdy with Green River Ordinance, Charlie Robison, Whiskey Myers and the Eli Young Band, followed by Read Southall Music at the after party indoors. These guys offer a perfect mix of music for a Friday night of fun.

On Saturday, April 30 the musical guests are Shane Smith and the Saints, William Clark Green, Cody Johnson Band and Kip Moore, and featuring Thom Shepherd at the after party indoors. These are definitely names you don’t want to miss out on seeing.

If you aren’t familiar with the Tumbleweed Dance Hall and Calf Fry area, it is located at 5010 West Lakeview Rd. A three day general admission ticket is $70, and VIP is $125. VIP access provides dedicated entry lines, private bathrooms, special bars and front stage area access. You can also purchase single day tickets. Thursday you can get GA tickets for $25, and $30 for Friday and Saturday. VIP single day tickets are $55 all three days. There is a strict no re-entry policy at the festival, so don’t leave unless you are ready to call it a day.
