Oklahoma City- Buffalo Rogers, a familiar face around Oklahoma City and Norman venues, has been playing music in the scene for a little over a decade. “I got into music when I was probably 13 or 14, my granddaddy gave me a harmonica and I kinda learned how to play those real well and got into everything else through that. Been playing guitar, mandolin a little bit, been out playing shows since I was about 18,” said Rogers. Rogers is a character, one that definitely has his own unique charm and style. His good ol’ boy vernacular and mannerisms stand out and add to his personality.

Before going solo, he played in a duo called Buffalofitz, releasing two albums. He currently has one solo album out; Buffalo Rogers: Live on Film Row , which was recorded live at the Paramount Theater in Oklahoma City on April 25th 2015. It has eleven songs on it, my favorites of which are “Phantom of the Opry” and “Redbird Tattoo”. When asked how he would describe his music, Rogers said, “Well I think it’s country music. I don’t know where it fits into today’s definition of that. It’s folk music but folk music that comes from a very country place. Folk music anymore is like a presentation more that an genre almost , being a folk singer. And I’m not sure I’m that, so country music I guess.”

I think that’s a pretty good description of it when it’s all said and done, I would definitely say Rogers has some folk/Americana undertones in his music. His songs are simple and quirky, his voice strong and versatile. His songs get your toes tapping for sure. Rogers has a talent for creating fun stories and characters within his music. He is a skilled entertainer, bringing humor and charm to his shows as much as musical entertainment.

Rogers met his wife Kelly Rogers, a musician as well as a visual artist, years ago when he played in her band. They have been married for four years and have a two and half year old son, Leroy. Something also interesting about Rogers is that he is currently pursuing a law degree, with a specialization in Copyright and Intellectual Property Law pertaining to music. Rogers is a great conversationalist, and can carry his own on a wide variety of topics.

There are two upcoming chances to see Rogers live. On Friday November 27th, Rogers along with Bryon White, Dillon Sampson and James Foster of the Damn Quails will be playing an acoustic set inside of Langston’s Western Wear in Stockyard City, located at 2224 Exchange Ave.,  at noon for Black Friday shopping. This will be free to the public. Rogers will also be opening for John Fullbright at UCO’s Mitchell Hall in Edmond on Saturday December 12th at 8pm. Tickets are still available online for the show.
